Architectural woodwork
Architectural woodwork builds a cabinet surface on the wall. It can be used to hide a transition between different surfaces – e.g. crown molding or window molding – but the ultimate purpose is the visual appeal of creating shadow lines. Architectural woodwork’s definition extends to wall paneling and built in furniture parts like book cases, bars, and stairwells.
The wainscoating used as the feature photograph uses medium density fiberboard, plywood, pigments and putty to create the illusion of a hardwood surface. This custom molding created more than 40 gallons of dust – thank goodness for the dust handling system in the shop.
Faux painting gives appearance of hardwood
Custom crown molding along the ceiling and tray ceiling completes the room. This architectural woodwork design took 12 separate pieces layer of custom cut and stock molding (5 at lower wall and 7 in the tray).
