Epoxy stabilizes and fills the bark intrusion and any other voids on the bark-side down 60 x 19 inch surface. The surface has a gentle undulation from the saw blade flexing as it encountered different densities wood fiber within the burl. The tightly adhered bark layer proved difficult to remove. Instead of removal, the barkside up features a rough sanding to smooth out the “bark bumps” that revealed the underlying growth layers. Multiple clear penetrating epoxy coats of stabilize the bark and assured the bark will not delaminate at a later dateA walnut splay-leg base gives the 27 inch tall table stability no matter which surface – bark up or bark down – you chose to display.

Remove 4 bolts attaching top and base
Remove base and flip top
Reattach base with bolts
After replacing decorative filler plug on the new “public” side, enjoy the new design look
